Eavan Murphy. Image by Kristina Arnott.Eavan Murphy brings a fresh and innovative approach to floristry and interior design with her signature concrete vessels, bold taste in flowers and keen eye for styling all under the name of her creative business Ms Murphy Flowers. Murphy’s outside of the box floristry style has blossomed from a background as a stage manager in theatre. Her artistic flare can be seen throughout her events work, weddings, shop installations, concrete vessels and terrariums.

Eavan will be co-facilitating the DIY Terrarium, Pot and Macramé Hanger workshop coming up with Kirri-MaDe: click here to join the fun.

We recently caught up with Eavan for a video interview in collaboration with filmmaker Sarah Elizabeth Harney. Enjoy the video and Q&A below!

Can you please provide a brief overview of what you do?

Ms. Murphy Flowers is a freelance florist service. I make and create new ways to pot your plants and terrariums and I also work closely with people organising and designing flowers for events, installations and weddings.

What was the last thing you made and who was it for?

The last thing I made was an order for hanging concrete pots with succulents planted inside.

What is the best handmade gift you’ve ever received and/or given?

The best handmade gift I’ve received and use regularly is my Pirdy geometric necklace.

Where did you grow up and has it influenced your creative practice?

I grew up in Ireland. I think it’s definitely influenced my creative practice of making concrete pots because sculpture is a huge part of the Irish arts. We have shops dedicated to Irish design and pottery.

What do you love about your current work? Is there a particular job project that you’ve enjoyed?

I love the creative freedom of my job. I recently worked on an installation and my brief was to use greenery so I went to town with different textures and different shades of green. It was so much fun putting it all together.

What lessons have you learnt the hard way in terms of your work or your creative business?
Not to let negative comments get you down. A lot of people can be quite quick to judge when you decide to work in something creative, it not being a “real job” etc.

Whose work are you digging at the moment?
Obviously Kirri-Mae’s (Kirri-MaDe). I adore her new range of necklaces….incredible! I also adore Tkawei’s work.

What inspires your ideas for creative works?

This might sound a bit ridiculous, but I’m massively inspired by nature and all it has to offer.

Where can we find out more about you/ your work?
