Bats of Leisure Embroidery Circle – Wearable Art Workshop
October 12, 2014 @ 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Colour Box Studio presents Bats of Leisure Embroidery Circle in Collingwood in October 2014. Bats of Leisure are a brother-sister art collective focusing on handmade wearable art.
This young talented team is interested in sharing skills with the community and spreading the delight of making something for yourself. Designers Aaron and Aoife Billings position themselves against the mindless capitalism of fast fashion such as H&M. “We really feel like if more people would realise they could make or embellish items for themselves they would find this very rewarding and turn away from this easy and ethically dubious way of consuming. At the very least we wish to impart a sense of fun and of accomplishment”.
In this workshop participants can bring an item of clothing they wish to embellish (the best fabrics for this are non stretch, heavy weight cottons or wool blends). Bats of Leisure will also provide fabric and wheels to embroider if preferred.
YOU WILL LEARN
A range of embroidery and appliqué techniques will be explored depending on the designs participants wish to achieve. All experience levels are welcome – there’s no limit to your creativity! All materials will be provided including embroidery threads, embroidery floss, needles, piece of fabric/wool.
