Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.

I am a children’s book illustrator that loves to create etchings of characters and imaginary worlds, and then hand-colour them with watercolour.

How did you start your creative business/arts practice and why?

When I finished my uni degree in printmaking, I got a few illustration contracts working on three children’s books for two different authors, which allowed me to develop my unique style. I realised that I wanted to dedicate my life to my arts practice and then help others to do the same.

Where did you grow up and has it influenced what you create?

I grew up in Melbourne, but I think my main influences are taken from my fascination of Japanese manga and anime.

What is your current project?

I’m currently working on a children’s book spreading awareness about West Papua. I am also collaborating with a percussion instrument maker from Umaji designs, designing illustration to be printed on skins of children’s drums, and also Kayman jewellery – creating concepts to be incorporated into children’s necklaces.

Who or what is your inspiration?

Studio Ghibli, May Gibbs, Shaun Tan, sunshine.

Where do you feel most creative?

In my room – I live in a huge room in an ancient 130-year-old house in Footscray, and it is my sanctuary.

What can visitors expect to see from you in the Colour Box Studio Spring Pop Up Shop?

Vibrant colours and quirky characters in prints and original framed etchings.
