Young Media Makers Project DVD
The Young Media Makers Project (YMMP) was set up as a platform for young people to be seen and heard in the media. For seven months in 2011, approximately 20 young people were engaged in filmmaking workshops, led by industry professionals, in Melbourne, Australia. Participants had access to professional filmmaking equipment, and were able to learn filmmaking skills and develop their own ideas for short films. The journey was documented on the YMMP website, Facebook page & YouTube channel so that participants could share their experiences with a wider audience and post workshop videos. The project resulted in this series of five uniquely crafted short films written, directed, acted & edited by this extraordinary group of young diverse Australians.
YMMP participants come from a wide range of backgrounds – many from migrant and refugee backgrounds. In groups, they worked together to produce films about issues & stories important to them. The five films: Half Full, Australian, Speed, The Minster & New Life in Australia, represent ‘Our Voice, Our Vision’ (a slogan developed by YMMP participants). The films explore themes of identity, culture, politics & youth issues.
