Colour Box Studio recruited two super talented volunteer interior designers to design and set up the current Summer Pop Up Shop. Bridgit Ryan and Kirthana Maddugaru are the creative forces behind the pop up shop and working with limited time they came together to create an amazing interior design. Make sure you come on down to Colour Box Studio to check out the shop in person, as well as all the great items we have for sale, before the 21st of December. We recently spoke to the two visionaries behind the shop layout to find out more about them.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

I studied Fine Art at VCA and Fashion Design at RMIT. I’m now an artist, I make sculptures and paint signs.

Where did your interest in interior design come from?

I studied fashion design when I was just out of high school, and while I was at Uni, I developed a love for great design, especially architecture and interiors. I realised that I didn’t want to pursue fashion design, but have continued to use my designtraining in my artistic practice. I have always been fascinated by commercial interiors, and while studying at VCA, I began to explore how spatial design affects viewers and consumers.

Have your done any training or preparation in order to become an interior designer?

I haven’t studied interior design specifically, but my design degree and fine art degree have both given me excellent training that I have been able to use in many different projects.

Where or how to you get your inspiration for design projects.

Often my ideas come from the restrictions of the project. I am inspired by the problems I have to solve – spatially, materially, budgetary requirements are often the catalyst for my ideas. I also haunt hardware stores and love to repurpose building materials, especially when I don’t know what they were originally intended to do.

What is your design style?

I like to keep my designs sleek and luxurious, but I love to show how it is made or how it works. I like to reveal the reality of where beauty comes from, and how visual language works to appeal to viewers.

What are you doing when you are not designing interiors?

I make sculptures and paint signs for stores.

What is the concept behind the Colour Box Studio Summer Pop Up shop?

We used as many found materials as we could to create the store, making as little waste as possible. We wanted to make a dynamic space with different levels and spaces that would showcase all of the products. We kept rough surfaces and used different types of timber. The color palette is natural and subdued, to allow the products to stand out.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

I’m an Architect & an Interior designer working as a freelancer for multiple projects across the globe.

Where did your interest in interior design come from?

I’ve always been moved by interiors and the way space makes me feel when I’m in it. I feel lucky that my passion for design from a young age has become a reality.

Have you done any training or preparation in order to become an interior designer?

I completed Bachelors degree in Architecture and also up skilled myself with various other Architecture/designing product suites.

Where or how to you get your inspiration for design projects.

I find my inspiration in nature especially colors and textures.

What is your design style?

Simple & Minimal with a hint of color and texture

What are you doing when you are not designing interiors?

Painting and reading blogs related to design consume the rest of my time. Even when I’m not designing I’m still thinking about design in every possible way.

What is the concept behind the Colour Box Studio Summer Pop Up shop?

The main aim was to reuse the materials and give the space more natural, earthy look. It was about material and texture rather than color and pattern, letting the displayed products do the talking.
