Facilitated by Ellie Mucke (Designer & Owner of Mücke)
DATE: Saturday, 6 April
TIME: 10am – 4pm
PRICE: $135 (includes an organic afternoon tea)
Do you have a pile of unwanted men’s shirts that are no longer worn but too good to throw away? Let me help you turn them into something useful and beautiful! In this hands-on workshop you will be guided through a step by step process for up-cycling an unwanted man’s shirt into a ladies designer skirt.
You will learn a simple process for the initial transformation before being guided through the many options for customising your skirt design.
Whilst exploring techniques to rescue old wares, an organic afternoon tea will be provided and great conversation will be had to complete the experience!
You will need to know some basic sewing skills and be able to work independently on your sewing machine to participate in this workshop.
You will gain:
New insight into how to up-cycle garments creatively and successfully, specifically men’s shirts.
How to design through drape.
You will produce one ladies skirt during the course of the workshop and skills to apply to other projects at home.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
It was over 10 years ago during her studies at RMIT when Ellie Mücke’s search for alternative approaches to fashion design practice began. Frustrated with unsustainable practice in the commercial fashion industry, Ellie formed the women’s clothing and accessories label MüCKE in 2007. Through re-configuring second-hand clothing, exploring interactive and collaborative design application and teaching, Ellie has developed a unique language in sustainable fashion design. Her collections question and explore the ways in which we choose to wear cloth on the body. Her ‘partial’ garments and trans-seasonal style, express her desire for a future based on much slower paced fashion consumption.
Participants should bring their own:
Thread to match shirts
Lots of dress making pins
2-3 x reclaimed men’s shirts- larger sizes allow more flexibility. I will have a few for purchase also.
Optional things to bring:
A piece of cloth 10cm x 1m approx (for a waistband)
