Colour Box Studio is gearing up for a busy August as part of Craft’s annual Craft Cubed Festival – we’ve got so much great stuff to share with you!
Craft Cubed is the biggest, craft and design oriented festival in Australia, and celebrates the art of the handmade and innovative creative practice. There’ll be exhibitions, installations, open studios, events and workshops – and that’s where Colour Box Studio comes in!
We’ve got a jam-packed lineup of events all under the Craft Cubed umbrella including workshops teaching jewellery, terrarium and macrame making, screen printing, 3D printing and opportunities to meet and pick the brains of the the Colour Box Studio Management Team!
Colour Box Studio at Trade Fair Day – Thursday 7th August
Craft have asked Colour Box Studio to be a part of the Craft Cubed festival hub! We’ll be hanging out at the Atrium at Fed Square on 7th and 8th August to showcase our creative community and chat to other crafty, creative people.
Thursday the 7th is Trade Fair Day: a day for arts, craft and design associations, suppliers and organisations to promote, meet, share ideas and basically have a good chat!
Swing by Colour Box Studio’s stall between 10am and 6pm if you’re interested in any of the following:
• Perusing (and purchasing) innovative, creative and downright cool items made by our artists
• Making bookings for our workshops or finding out about our upcoming events
• Hearing what we’ve got planned for the Colour Box Studio Membership Program
• Chatting to Colour Box Studio Director Amie Batalibasi and Projects and Events Coordinator Kristina Arnott about what we do, why we do it, and how you can be involved!
Colour Box Studio at Workshops & Demonstrations Day – Friday 8th August
Colour Box Studio will be hanging out at the Atrium again on Friday the 8th of August, but we won’t be alone!
We’ve got three excellent activities led by three excellent creatives lined up for Craft Cubed’s Workshops and Demo Day, a day for festivalgoers to get their hands dirty and learn some new skills.
Drop in and take part in one of our activities – no bookings required!
10am-1pm: Collage artist Nicole Kennedy will inspire and guide you to make your own unique collage artwork – materials provided!
1pm-3pm: Quiz Marinos from Studio Batch on 3D printing, how it works, and what its possibilities are while watching a 3D printer in action.
3pm-6pm: Create a bright and colourful card (or seven!) with Hayley from Silly Rabbit – she’s an expert explorer of colour and geometric abstraction.
More info on the event page here!
Liz will demonstrate the basics and give some tips and tricks before setting you loose with all the materials you need. You’ll get to design your own artwork, turn it into a stencil and then print it onto fabric. You can even bring your own material to print on – think blank t-shirt, apron, tea towel, pillow case, etc. Aside from your brand new screen-printed pieces, you’ll take home an instruction sheet, a list of necessary equipment and stockists, and a whole new skillset!
To book this fabulous workshop or for more info, head to the workshop page. Can’t wait to see your printed artworks!
DIY Terrarium, Pot and Macramé Hanger in One Day – Sunday 24th August
Eavan Murphy of Ms. Murphy Flowers will be handling the terrarium and pot side of things. A florist by trade, Eavan will teach you how to design, create and care for a terrarium, providing all plants and materials and a cool concrete vessel to decorate to house your glass orb terrarium.
After that, Kirri-Mae, the talented designer-weaver behind Kirri-MaDe will show you the knotting techniques of macramé and help you create a hanger to complement your freshly made terrarium.
This super great value (and super fun) double workshop would make an excellent gift for a special pal, or just an easy outlet for you to get creative and make a unique centrepiece for your home!
For details on all the added bonus goodies included in the workshop and to book, check out the workshop page.
