Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
Hi, I’m Sarah Streeter and I design women’s underwear for my online business Urbanearthwear. I am also a wife and stay at home mum to a 21 month old boy. Some people might think of me as a ‘mumpreneur’.
How did you start your creative business and why?
I literally woke up one morning in August 2009 and thought underwear, everyone wears and needs undies. From there the journey began and Urbanearthwear was established in 2012. Why? After falling ill in South East Asia in 2005 I decided that I wanted to work in environmental/sustainability. My passion for travel has given me great insight and an appreciation for the environment. My mission is to create products that has least environmental impact, made ethically, things that are a need and educate consumers to start thinking about the way in which we live and the impact this has around us.
Where did you grow up and has it influenced what you create?
My early childhood was spent in Adelaide. Great memories of lots of activities outdoors; playing, long walks, tad poling,. From a young age I learnt how much enjoyment you can have from what nature has to offer. This theme is present in my range of underwear with artistic prints inspired by nature.
What is your current project?
Two new lovely prints available in the range of underwear and singlet’s coming in a couple of weeks just in time for summer.
Where do you feel most creative?
I do all my design work at home but ideas come to mind when I give time to imagine and contemplate, usually when I am walking and on long drives to Melbourne.
What can visitors expect to see from you in the Colour Box Studio Summer Pop Up Shop?
Stylish Australian and ethically made underwear with funky, bright, bold prints.
What advice would you give to those considering starting a creative business?
If it’s something you’re passionate about go for it.
Where can we see more of your work?
