Tell us about Party Banana?

“Party Banana” is a party-themed improvised comedy show it’s like a real party, a terrible one! The audience members take part in the show as the guests at the opening night of Tristan and Bianca’s combination design/record label Party Banana. They are drawn into the drama as the characters unravel. The characters are Tristan a record producer and Bianca, a furniture designer and their friends Gray, Eloura, Rochelle and Gary.

Party Banana will be at Colour Box Studio, 236 Nicholson Street Footscray on the 20th and 27th of September at 7.30pm as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Party Banana is also an Oxfam Fundraiser and entry is by donation at the door.

Where did the idea come from?

My housemate and I were doing the dishes and we came up with the idea of an interactive show that was basically a party, with the couple hosting having an argument and breaking up publicly in front of the audience. We figured there was plenty of comedic material in that, and hopefully there is.

When you are not performing in Party Banana what are you doing?

We all have day jobs, we’re part-time bananas. Some of us are actors and working on other projects too!

What inspires you?

Horrible people! I worked in customer service for a long time, I still do. I love meeting awful people, I mine them for material.

Do you have any other projects underway?

Not at the moment but definitely once the Fringe Festival is over I’ll be working on something new. And we’re hoping to take Party Banana to the Comedy Festival next year!

What can the audience expect to see in Party Banana?

Everyone will see something different! That’s the beauty of the show, it’s happening all around and within the audience, including the audience! So everyone will have a different experience of it.
