The Colour Box Studio Pop Up Shop:
It took 6 weeks of hard work to transform an old Tattoo Parlor into the Colour Box Studio Pop Up Shop. A team of volunteers knocked down walls, broke up tiles, sanded, painted & constructed shop fittings – all on a shoestring budget. The team work and sense of community that was built over this time was astounding!
On Wednesday 7th November, it all finally came together. Our launch event went off with a bang – all the hard work by volunteers paid off and we were all able to enjoy the space, welcome people and celebrate together. We had a ‘Pop Up Fashion Show’ by New Model Beauty Queen, music by Grace Vanilau, Fina and Nala and workshops with Maryann Talia Pau for her 1 Million Stars to End Violence project. Also we had lucky door raffle prizes and about 140 people through the door on our first night. All in all it was a great success. Photos below by Rachel Main.

The shop showcases over 20 artists and displays their work for the public to come in, browse and buy. There is a diverse range of items in the store – jewellery, candles, body products, fashion, cards, homewares, gifts – all ethically produced by Melbourne artists, designers and craftmakers. The idea is to give artists an outlet to display work, create networks and bring in a bit of income. So far we have succeeded in doing this.
Here is a sneak peek mini catalogue below and for opening times click here. Because we are having loads of people through the door we have decided to stay open until Christmas to give people a chance to get their shopping done in our store. Yay! Shop local this Christmas and buy ethically produced presents for your loved ones!
